Aluminum (Al) is the most abundant mineral on Earth after oxygen and silicon and is the most abundant metal found naturally on Earth. It is present in 270 minerals. Aluminum is a silver, soft metal with an atomic number of thirteen and thirteen protons in the nucleus. It constitutes about eight percent of the Earth’s land mass.

Aluminum (aka Aluminium) fun facts:

  1. Caution – Iodine and Aluminum powder plus a few drops of water create: Clouds of toxic purple iodine vapor and a flame.
  2. Recycling aluminum takes only 5 percent of the energy needed to extract new aluminum from ore.
  3. Aluminum is globally the most used metal that does not contain iron.
  4. Aluminum is almost always used as an alloy, even if the aluminum content is as high as 99%.
  5. The most commonly used elements to combine with aluminum to create an alloy are zinc, copper, silicon, magnesium, and manganese.
  6. This element is the second-most abundant metallic element in Earth’s crust after silicon.
  7. Aluminum is lightweight (a third the weight of steel or copper).
  8. That Coke can: According to the Aluminum Association, an aluminum can takes 60 days to return as a new can after recycling.
  9. Aluminum and its alloys are significantly used in the aerospace industry auto manufacturing and transportation, construction, packaging etc.

{New Post} Mothers Day 2017

Hello News Update Castings Aluminum,

{New Post} Mothers Day 2017

In six days – Sunday, May 14th is Mothers Day 2017.

mothers_Day

Happy Mothers Day

Why do we celebrate Mothers Day? For “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world” – Anna Jarvis. The US holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at Saint Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Saint Andrew’s Methodist Church has an International Mother’s Day Shrine now to remember. Her campaign to make “Mother’s Day” a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. The mother, Ann Jarvis, had been a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War. Ann created Mother’s Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor all mothers.

Traditional gifts to Mothers include: flowers, candy, a dinner at a nice restaurant or a spa treatment. Whatever you decide to do for your mother, remember to do something.

Heat Sinks Made From Aluminum Castings

What are Aluminum Heat Sinks? Aluminum heat sinks draw heat from another source through thermal contact. These are mainly used in electronics and automobiles but there are other uses like: Airplane parts, Microwaves, Satellite components, Laser components, Motor housings, Automotive and Lighting parts.

Heat sink castings absorb and dissipate heat from another object. It is a piece of molded aluminum or copper that usually sits directly on top of a feverish source or processor. In many cases, you won’t be able to see the processor unless you take out the heat sink first.

Wherever there is a need for efficient dissipation of heat, there will surely be heat sinks installed. A major industry that uses heat sinks is refrigeration.

The heat sinks manufactured these days come in different shapes and sizes. The typical heat sink though, has long fins and thin protrusions for conducting the heat from the processor to the cooler environment inside the aluminum heat sink.

Most of the heat sinks in the market these days are equipped with fans that blow the cool air to the fins to dissipate heat more effectively. These fans or blowers are usually placed on top of the fins or in the middle. Heat sinks like these usually cost around $25 or higher.

Aluminum heat sinks are designed to require less machine processing. The fins can be manufactured simultaneously with the mounting holes. Typically, about 250 to 2500 heat sink parts can be produced per day.

Aluminum Box Castings

Companies these days have a lot of options when it comes to how they can package their products, freebies, or marketing materials. These options include the usual corrugated, plastic, set up, or wood boxes. Aside from these, a new option has been created in aluminum boxes. Aside from that, these enclosures or housings also have other uses.

These are boxes made out of aluminum alone or in combination with acrylic. The companies can choose from any style like tote box, two-piece set up, or like CD/DVD boxes. The boxes can have details for aesthetics like laser etching, anodizing, and powder coating.

Aluminum casting housings, aluminum casting enclosures and aluminum casting boxes are all quite associated in that they cover something as packaging media. These boxes can conduct electricity so that means it can easily get grounded.

Most of these boxes are die casts because the production entails lesser labor requirements and the production process is much faster. What’s more, these casings weigh lighter that the steel fabricated parts.

Depending on how big or heavy the parts are, about a few hundreds to a few thousands of these can be produced every day. These boxes or housings are usually used for: engine enclosures for automobiles and trucks, housing for computer disk drives, motors, communication companies, car transmission housing, and for electrical junction boxes.

Aside from using aluminum boxes for packaging of retail products, they are used as enclosures for electronic products that are sensitive to dust, moisture, or sudden impact. These boxes are used to protect the items from damage of any sort.
